So we went to Imnaha, Oregon. It was a new moon, and this place is rated a category 1 on the light pollution map. Which to be honest is 4 hours one way for us to get to. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night weather wise. Crystal clear skies, a little chilly but thankfully hubby brought his jacket along. I got a lot of night time pics. We spent about 30 or so minutes taking pictures and then we started the trek home. Now this needs to be said, recently we’ve had some bad luck with hitting animals in our car/van. I was being vigilant and on the look out for deer as that seems to be what we hit the most. Our trip to northern Idaho was such an incident where we hit one with the van and thankfully the van is still functional. Bruised but functional. That being said I’m now paranoid of wildlife at night. We did see a couple of deer which stayed where they were supposed to. What happened next feels like it dropped from a David Lynch movie. We’re driving along normally and from the left side of the road comes a MOUNTAIN LION towards the car. Like it was in full attack mode on the car. We were too fast thankfully. Now granted it might’ve been a hallucination. But the hubby and I both saw the same thing at the same time. The rest of the trip home was uneventful. We got home around 5 am, went upstairs and we both crashed for the night in bed. The mountain lion was the highlight of our trip outside of the breathtaking view of the night sky. No I didn’t get a picture of the mountain lion we were going too fast and it was behind us type thing. But I can say it definitely happened and we still are astounded by it.
